How will you help my child to settle in?
We understand that starting nursery is a big step for both children and parents. We offer a flexible settling-in period tailored to each child’s needs. This includes short visits with a parent/carer and gradually increasing the time spent independently. During this time, your child will be introduced to a key person who will form a close, nurturing bond to help them feel safe and secure.
Who would be my first point of contact if I want to discuss something about my child?
Your first point of contact will be your child’s key person. They observe and support your child’s daily experiences and development. If needed, you can also speak with our nursery manager or SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) for more specific concerns.
How do you know if a child needs extra help?
Our team is trained to closely observe each child’s development. We carry out regular assessments and track progress in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). If we notice any areas where your child may need extra support, we will discuss this with you and work together to understand their needs.
How will you support my child?
We provide tailored support based on each child’s interests, learning style, and individual needs. This may include one-to-one or small group activities, visual aids, or structured routines. If your child has additional needs, we’ll create an individual support plan with input from you and any relevant professionals.
How will I be involved in my child's learning?
We value parental involvement and encourage regular communication. You’ll receive updates through learning journals, parents’ evenings, and daily feedback. We also offer workshops, home learning ideas, and welcome your contributions to your child’s learning journey.
How will you support my child in times of change, such as moving on to a new setting or into school?
Transitions are carefully planned with your child’s well-being in mind. We provide preparation activities, role play, and discussions to build familiarity. We also liaise with new settings or schools to share helpful information and can arrange visits where possible to help your child feel confident and ready.
How will you check my child is happy and settled?
We use observations, key person relationships, and regular wellbeing check-ins to monitor how your child is feeling. If we notice any signs of distress or withdrawal, we will explore the cause and work closely with you to provide reassurance and support.
What specialist services and expertise are available at, or are accessed by your setting?
We have access to a range of external professionals such as speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and local authority SEND support teams. Our SENCO coordinates referrals and liaises with specialists to ensure your child receives the right support.
What training and experience have staff had with supporting children with SEND?
All staff receive regular training in supporting children with SEND, including topics like autism awareness, speech and language support, and inclusive practices. Our SENCO has specialist training and experience in identifying and supporting a wide range of additional needs.
How will you work with other agencies that are supporting my child or our family?
We believe in a team approach. With your consent, we will liaise with other professionals involved in your child’s care to ensure consistency and collaboration. We can attend meetings, share observations, and implement agreed strategies in our setting.
How will my child be included in activities outside the room including physical activities and visits?
All children are included in trips and activities outside the room. We make necessary adjustments to ensure accessibility and participation for everyone, including extra staffing, equipment, or modified activities to suit individual needs.
How accessible is your environment?
Our setting is designed to be inclusive and accessible, with features such as ramps, wide doorways, and accessible toilets. We review our environment regularly and make reasonable adjustments to support children with physical, sensory, or mobility needs.
